BOYDS, MD, July 24, 2025 – Earlier this year, incumbent Congresswoman April McClain Delaney voted against the bipartisan SAVE Act and inaccurately claimed that the bill would disenfranchise citizens by requiring them to use a birth certificate or passport to vote.
Robin Ficker rebutted McClain Delaney’s claims with the following statement:
“Congresswoman McClain Delaney has once again demonstrated a disregard for her most fundamental Constitutional responsibilities by voting against measures to secure our elections. Despite frequent claims of ‘safeguarding’ or ‘defending’ our democracy, her recent vote against requiring voter ID proves otherwise.
The SAVE Act, which has gained bipartisan support, would implement a voter ID requirement that is less restrictive than what is currently required for everyday activities, such as flying or purchasing alcohol. Yet, McClain Delaney voted against it, disregarding the common-sense need to secure our elections and restore trust in the process. Voters see through her attempts to justify this vote, and they know that her actions do not align with her rhetoric.
In Maryland, citizens are required to present an ID for a wide range of activities—from flying to purchasing alcohol or over-the-counter products like Zyns. However, Congresswoman McClain Delaney voted against a basic requirement to show ID when casting a vote in our elections. How can we claim to safeguard our democracy if we refuse to secure our elections in the same way we secure airports and retail establishments? Moreover, the second largest city in Maryland, Frederick, is actively allowing non-citizens to vote, and yet, McClain Delaney has said nothing. Her repeated failure to address these serious issues undermines the integrity of our elections and betrays the trust of her constituents.
Western Maryland deserves a leader who not only defends our elections but also tells the truth and stands firm in protecting the sanctity of every vote. Congresswoman McClain Delaney’s actions have shown she is more concerned with partisan talking points than with the security and fairness of our democratic process.”
